The Salsette

I spent Saturday out with Dive Dorset, revisiting a wreck that I first dived in 1991. I always remembered the Salsette as being a particularly special dive, and it still is.

The Salsette was a P&O steam liner and once held numerous world records, including the Blue Riband for the fastest Atlantic crossing, until she yielded to the torpedoes of UB-40 in 1917. She now lies in 45-48 metres of water, 10 miles west of Portland Bill in Dorset, England.

Diving the Molina....

I spent Saturday diving in the English Channel off the Isle of Wight. We dived the "Molina", a steel steamer that was torpedoed in 1918 and now lies in 36 metres of water. Photographic conditions were challenging, as there was a lot of suspended matter in the water, but it was a really great dive. Dave Wendes of the Wight Spirit proved to be a very photographer-friendly skipper. Here are a few images from the trip......
